It is faith promoting to say the least. Often we hear the typical histories of Joseph Smith but since we are focused on him so much we don’t see how things are going around him. Still a great book with lots of inspiring stories. Boolean terms must be in uppercase. How their sufferings were worse than anyone elses. I guess I knew it was I loved the first part of the book when it talked about the beginnings of the church.

I know he was poetic and wrote many songs, but some of them I could do without. Parley became a religious seeker, beginning a serious study of the scriptures at age I’d wager Parley P.

I then read the testimony of several witnesses in relation to the manner of its pdatt found and translated. They add to the history of Mormonism in general, but not neccessarily to Parley’s personal history.

His love and respect for the Prophet Joseph also deepened.

In Parley penned A Voice of Warning —after the scriptures probably one of the most widely read works among Church members for the next half century. Pratt, a beloved Apostle and missionary, was an eyewitness to the rolling forth of the newly restored gospel.

During his era the availability of cheap pamphlets and newspapers rapidly increased, and opponents of the Church used the printed word to condemn the Saints and misrepresent their beliefs.

It’s fascinating to learn about what happened through his eyes, and to see how he interpreted it all. They baptized thousands, and shiploads of emigrants were soon headed for Nauvoo. To top it all off, he was a poet to boot! Parley provided crucial leadership in the trek to the Salt Lake Valley and in the early exploration of Utah.

Pratt and his brother Orson were ordained members of the Quorum oarley the Twelve Apostles. Whether he be telling of the time he ran 10 miles to be reunited with his supposedly dead brother, or the time he slept in a small shack that he built for himself to last through the winter, you won’t be disappointed, for each story of his is an exciting story that will keep you reading and reading and reading.

He accomplished more in a single life than a ;ratt or so men. Hard to give any biography less than 5 stars really. Up until then, the book read very much like a good historic fiction, except that it was a true story, which made it all the better.

Having not been there I don’t know if there were parts of his life left out. With just a few more years, he probably could have finished the book, smoothing out the edges and filling in the gaps.

Pratt gave his all for the Lord and His Restored Church!
