The New Yorker Magazine. Hughes has huughes qualms about calling out injustice, and I appreciated that. Then, even in the eyes of their own lovers, thousands of the nice girls of Madrid, since they were no longer virgins, were held in contempt.
He crafts his stories with compassion and humor, and writes in an entertaining and easy-to-read style. I probably picked this book up because of my own wandering and wondering tendencies. The Hue and Cry at Our House. Hughes was truly adventurous in his time.
